Who we are
Senior Muslim Society of Greater Houston (SMSGH) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization established to provide services to a diverse population of seniors according to their faith and culture. We are proud to be the first 501(c)(3) organization of our kind in Greater Houston and beyond.
Many nursing home facilities in the U.S. are not culturally sensitive. We provide the connection that makes a senior's stay peaceful, and we support families in difficult times as they care for their aging parents and elders.
Empower diverse seniors and caregivers to live their lives with respect, dignity and independence.
Provide programs that meet religious and cultural needs while addressing basic, social, mental, educational and legal needs.
Our services
From companionship and transport to education and spiritual comfort, our programs meet seniors and caregivers where they are.

Get-togethers and recreation, Chai Time, a seniors' book club, Friday rides to the masjid and Quran classes, plus phone and in-person companionship so no one feels alone.

Rides to appointments and groceries, halal meals when cooking is hard, help filling or delivering prescriptions, light household help, and support finding shelter or placement.

ESL and computer and smartphone classes, nutrition and mental-health workshops, and help understanding Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Reaching out to seniors at home or in hospital with comfort and spiritual assistance, a culturally sensitive connection to make their stay peaceful.

In partnership with community legal agencies: guidance on immigration, work permits and U.S. citizenship, plus help preparing an Islamic will or trust.
